If not, the safest thing to do is just do a turn in the road and find another way to your destination. I personally wouldn't attempt this unless I had a clear view of all directions and could see that there were no cars there. If you suspect they aren't working, I believe that there is an exception to the law for going through the lights on red, provided that you do it safely and carefully and there is no approaching traffic. It amazes me how often this happens and how long it can take for someone to fix them. Occasionally, they just don't work at all and will stay on red on all directions.
Sometimes the sensors don't work or are badly adjusted on these temporary lights meaning they will never detect that you're there.

do they put red light camera's on short term roadworks? I like to think I'm a responsible driver (I'v only been driving 2 years) and i feel terrible about it! If no one saw you, you'll be fine. I thought the sensor may be broken then made my way SLOWLY past the minor roadworks then stopped and asked one of the workmen if the lights where working and explained i went through on red, he responded with "its on four way rotation, just keep going". I sat at the light for 4-5 Minuit with no traffic coming through the other way and it didnt change. I went through a red temporary traffic light and I'm worried I'l get a ticket? the temporary traffic light was for roadworks that where there for maybe 2 hours? (i went through 2 hours earlier and they wern't there).
